I'm a sucker for a standout coat or a jacket that wows - they're the cornerstones of my wardrobe, especially in winter! But looking good doesn't mean practicality has to go out of the window. I've tried and tested Cotton Traders' new collection of coats and jackets and picked out my top 5, just for you. Some add something really special, others a quiet satisfaction, but each has a special place in my wardrobe.
I'm obsessed with keeping warm but I want to look good at the same time, which is why this longer line padded coat is first on my winter wish list. If you look in the wardrobes of our stylish friends on the continent - where practical style is always a priority - you'll always spot a padded coat, but it will never be boring. It'll be fur trimmed, in an expensive shade of champagne, and it'll be fitted to show off your shape. That's why this coat ticks all my boxes and will be the one I reach for on frosty mornings!
I think we all need a big hug right now! The second on my list of can't-go-wrong coats is this cosy teddy number. Simmering on the fashion forecast last winter, the teddy jacket is now firmly at the top of this season's trend list. With its slightly oversized boxy shape and chunky texture, this jacket looks lovely layered over more substantial fabrics like knitwear, denim, wool and cord.
Every girl needs a smattering of sparkle in her wardrobe, so it's this sequin blazer's time to shine! Not only is it the cherry on top of a socially-distanced party dress but it'll work just as well with the rest of your wardrobe too. Wear it with denim, cargo pants and even sweats to extend its life and keep it sparkling on long after the festivities are over. Shoulder pads give it shape, structure and a slight 80s feel, keeping it cool and fresh.

Country style comes to town with number 4 on my list - what I call the 'dashing-out-the-door' jacket. I wear this sort of jacket over jeans to walk my dog or pull it on over my workout gear when I need a no-nonsense warm layer. What sold it to me was, in no particular order, the hood, the fleece lining and the shape. I'm also a big fan of navy, which is softer than black, especially for blondes.
Everyone needs an everyday coat they can rely on for practicality, but as we've seen, practical can be anything but boring. The styling on this waterproof jacket really adds some 'whoop!' to your wardrobe. Check the fur lined hood, the fishtail hem and those colours - kingfisher or soft berry, anyone? I've worn this over grey marl sweats and trainers, as well as black jeans and biker boots, secure in the knowledge that not only am I ready for whatever the weather throws my way, but I'm taking style by storm too!
